OLIVE BRICKS

Gazing at the energy of the earth itself.

This clay brick lighting equipment displays the unearthed, striking texture of the ground. The earth’s silent energy, fired in high temperatures has been a symbol of primitive technology, now evolved into a modern, luminous object.

In order to illustrate ‘the original strength of earth’ through exquisite tones and texture, we utilized the original  “Clay Meister finish” process of Ceramic Olive Inc. A hand-crafted production process creates the depiction of an indigeneous elegance. After drying the clay for 48 hours, it is then baked for a further 48 hours using a reduction firing furnace at 1320℃. This furnace has a total length of 50m, giving the clay a specific texture and creating an object with the soul and strength of earth and fire. The red artwork you can see is named “AKANE.”  This evokes the spirit of brick. The brown artwork, which expresses the color of soil itself, is named “KOGARE.” The black artwork is named “YORU,” exposing the elegance of pine ash.

A journey through the memories of earth and fire Clay bricks, hardened and fired from the ground, have barely changed throughout history and are still used as a major building material. This exhibition displays artwork with a sense of modern interior design. Our ancestors may have faced hardship creating these clay materials from earth and fire in the millennia past. Excavating time and processing the origin of creation.
